BIOGRAPHY
1980 Born in Zhejiang Province, China Currently lives and works in Beijing, China CHEN Wei (b.1980, China), graduated from Zhejiang University of Media and Communications in 2002. Inspired by the narrative methodology in literature and drama, CHEN puts his attention to the internal structure of daily life. The images of coin, sculpture, book and light repeatedly appear in his artworks, criticising the contemporary taboo in the Chinese society, namely the indulgence of desire under consumerism, the absurdity of the contemporary art scene and the human condition along with the city development. Participated exhibitions include solo exhibition “Where Are You Going Tonight” (chi K11 art space, Guangzhou, 2018), “Chen Wei: Falling Light” (Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle, Munich, 2018), “Chen Wei: Fresh Dewdrop” (OTA Fine Arts, Singapore, 2018), “Chen Wei: The Club” (Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2017), group exhibition “Night Fever” (Vitra Design Museum, Germany, 2018), “Simultaneous Eidos” (Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, 2017) and “We Chat: A Dialogue in Contemporary Chinese Art” (Asia Society, Texas, 2016).
