Sarah LAI  黎卓華

Sarah LAI (b. 1983, Hong Kong) received a BA in Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007 and has been studying MFA at The Chinese University of Hong Kong since 2013. All the elements depicted in LAI’s paintings are her attempts to visualize a calm attitude towards individual existence. To her, painting is a deliberate and time-consuming process that is like a personal ceremony to build a relationship with the world. The references of her paintings originate from photos. They are normally casual pictures taken by common people in their daily journeys. Hence, her paintings present a particular visual common language for modern people, creating the possibility for a closer relationship between her artworks and the audiences. The painting's composition, highly detailed brushstrokes and color palette are chosen to imbue a calming sense.
