BIOGRAPHY
Dony CHENG Hung Born in 1993, Hong Kong Dony Cheng Hung is an emerging visual artist based in Hong Kong. Drawing with charcoal is primary in her artistic practice, and she sometimes also creates installation and moving image works. Often inspired by daily sceneries in her neighbourhood, Cheng transforms familiar sights of cityscape into simple blocks of monotone colour with different shades, exploring the subtle variations and relationship between the reality and the imaginative. Cheng graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2017, majoring in Fine Arts, and currently completing a Master of Fine Arts degree at the same school. She was awarded Fresh Trend Art Award in 2020 and the Grotto Fine Art’s Creative Award in 2017. Her works have been included in solo and group exhibitions organised by various art institutions. Her selected solo exhibitions including Elaboration of the reflected lights (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2022); The Night Observer (Yen Ben Contemporary, Taiwan, 2021); Unfurling the scroll of space and time (part of the 55 Squared Project, commissioned by Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong, 2020); and The Sunset lasts forever (a.m. space, Hong Kong, 2020). Recent group exhibition participations include Meet You There (SC Gallery, Hong Kong, 2022); Emo Gym (Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong, 2022); and Shining Moment (Tang Art Foundation, Hong Kong, 2021), among others. |
