LUI Chun Kwong  呂振光

BIOGRAPHY

LUI Chun Kwong
Born in 1956, Guangdong, China

Settling in Hong Kong since 1962, Lui Chun Kwong is a renowned artist whose practice mainly involves painting. He also makes works on paper, installations and prints. Throughout his artistic career of more than forty years, he has explored the technique and schema of abstract landscape painting. His signature Landscape series challenge the classical Chinese aesthetics of landscape painting, embodying the visual effect of the pure form and achieving a state of quiet cultivation. The repetitive lines on the canvases demonstrate a highly meditative process and awareness, reaching a state of being simple, mindful and original.

Lui studied at the Department of Fine Arts of the National Taiwan Normal University in 1980 and obtained a Master of Arts degree from the Goldsmiths’ College of the University of London in 1994. He was Associate Professor of the Department of Fine Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1985 to 2010.

Lui has participated in numerous exhibitions, recent solo shows include Lui Chun Kwong: Forming Dusty Clues (AIKE Gallery, Shanghai, 2018); and Lui Chun Kwong: The Distant Line (Tap Seac Gallery, Macau, 2016); Comma after Period: LUI Chun Kwong Yi Liu Painting Factory (Art Basel Hong Kong, 2015).
