Chris HUEN Sin Kan 禤善勤

BIOGRAPHY

Chris HUEN Sin Kan
Born in 1991, Hong Kong

With an emphasis in oil painting, HUEN’s practice explores the minute and exquisite experiences of daily life. The artist believes that the essence of existence should not be constructed nor constricted by conventions that are the result of a collective cognition, every work is a composition of clear strokes purely driven by spontaneity.

HUEN obtained his BA in Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013.  Participated solo exhibitions include A Day In The Life (Ota Fine Arts, Tokyo, 2023); Chris Huen Sin Kan: Artist in Residence (Royal Academy Schools Studio and the Western Studio, Royal Academy of Arts, London, 2022); Blossoms In The Shade (Ota Fine Arts, Singapore, 2022); Puzzled Daydreams (Simon Lee Gallery, London, 2020); Tall Trees – and the things I might have forgotten (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2019); The Illuminated Mundane (OTA Fine Arts, Tokyo, 2019).  His group exhibitions include New Moroism (White Cube, Hong Kong, 2023); Bordercrossing: Possibilities and Interactions (The Yuz Museum, Shanghai, 2023); Thailand Biennial Korat 2021 (Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Korat, 2021-2); Biennial of Painting – Inner Spaces (Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Belgium, 2020); Shek-O Sublime (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2019).

Huen’s work are collected by institutions and foundations worldwide: Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney); Institute of Contemporary Art (Miami); Kadist Art Foundation (Paris/ San Francisco); Sifa Art Museum (Nanjing); K11 Art Foundation (Hong Kong).
