Gallery EXIT presents Chino NG in 'seen from within', featuring his new and recent artwork series. Both series showcase NG's ongoing material investigations and observational practice, reflecting his dedicated study of light as both subject and medium. The artist employs in his practice a variety of materials, from stones to transparent resins, to explore the sensations that arise when light penetrates through different substances. The refraction and diffusion of light on these materials result in ever-changing forms and patterns, creating a unique tactile quality. In the 'seen from within' series, NG works with how light softens the line between reality and abstraction. The artist uses light and shadow to etch golden moments from memory — the flicker of television screens in childhood, sunsets serendipitously captured during travels, and the shifting interplay of indoor and outdoor lighting.NG studies how light's angle, intensity, and color temperature sculpt depth and create emotional atmospheres. As the observer, NG seeks traces of time within every beam of light through his everyday observations. The 'Shape(d)' series represents NG's technical exploration of light penetrating through materials. The artist focuses his artistic practice on the theme of transparent plastic., drawn to its soft yet rich quality and unique luster. Through his chosen mediums, NG captures subtle reflections and intricate textures that emerge when light interacts with these transparent materials. His aims to documents the presence and essence of light itself through physical media. Chino NG (b. 1987, Hong Kong) graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2011. His artistic practice comprises mainly drawing, painting, and installation. NG's artwork is centered around the concept of 'gaze,' using rich textures and reflective elements to convey the depth and tension of the subject matter. NG's recent solo exhibitions include 'Who needs a personality when you have fabulous lights' (Artspace 1999, Hong Kong, 2024) and 'Until u r safe' (Parallel Space, Hong Kong, 2020).
